Education and Public Awareness
Timely and accurate information on domestic violence is provided to community religious
groups, schools, universities and social service agencies through flyers, presentations
and public service announcements.
A Progressive Voice
Apna Ghar organizes and participates in events at which community members can gather to
discuss issues such as racism, violence, poverty and isolation.
Enhancement of Asian American Image
Many clients have expressed their appreciation for the assistance and empowerment that
Apna Ghar has provided. In addition, several local and state agencies have received
cultural sensitivity training.
Volunteer Opportunities
Every week, trainined volunteers provide transportation, support and encouragement to
individual clients, and advocate for their needs. Regular volunteer programs are
conducted on an on-going basis.
Research and Internship Opportunities
Loyola, Oberlin, University of Wisconsin, Brown, Hofstra, Northwestern, University of
Illinois, and the University of Chicago are among the universities that have worked with
Apna Ghar.
Networking
Apna Ghar networks with the police, courts, health care agencies, social service agencies,
prisons and neighborhood organizations which provide services to victims of family
violence.
