Community Services

Education and Public Awareness
Timely and accurate information on domestic violence is provided to community religious groups, schools, universities and social service agencies through flyers, presentations and public service announcements.

A Progressive Voice
Apna Ghar organizes and participates in events at which community members can gather to discuss issues such as racism, violence, poverty and isolation.

Enhancement of Asian American Image
Many clients have expressed their appreciation for the assistance and empowerment that Apna Ghar has provided.  In addition, several local and state agencies have received cultural sensitivity training.

Volunteer Opportunities
Every week, trainined volunteers provide transportation, support and encouragement to individual clients, and advocate for their needs.  Regular volunteer programs are conducted on an on-going basis.

Research and Internship Opportunities
Loyola, Oberlin, University of Wisconsin, Brown, Hofstra, Northwestern, University of Illinois, and the University of Chicago are among the universities that have worked with Apna Ghar.

Networking
Apna Ghar networks with the police, courts, health care agencies, social service agencies, prisons and neighborhood organizations which provide services to victims of family violence.
