Special Guests
Jenny Vyas
Jenny Vyas is a nationally recognized Contemporary Fine Artist and Muralist for her powerful paintings and murals. She is highly influenced by beauty in complex human emotions and attempts to reveal them through nuanced expressions in her work. Her interest in human frailty shows in her paintings where she creates abstracts of human silhouettes and fluctuating forms in half-light; all drawn from reality, personal experiences, and memories. Jenny enjoys painting interactive murals where the viewers become a part of the artwork and the art is an extension of their stories. Some of her current popular murals are the Wings in West Loop. Jenny's artistic influences stream from music, poetry, books, artists like Shakespeare, Rothko, JR, Banksy, Alexa Meade, Andy Worhol, Jackson Pollock, Da Vinci, Salvador Dali, Georgia O'Keeffe, Gustav Klimt, and many more. Prior to becoming an artist, Jenny has headed eCommerce for corporations and brands for 15+ years, including The Oprah Store at Harpo. JennyVyas.com
Performance: Woori Sori
Woori Sori (meaning Our Voice) is a Korean women and gender non-conforming folx percussion group that creates space for people to share a powerful connection through dancing, singing, and playing drums. The group normally plays four of the traditional Korean percussion instruments. Each of the four instruments represents different aspects of the universe and nature: stars and thunder; sun and wind; moon and cloud; and rain, and the people who walk upon the land to tie the spirits and the body.
Woori Sori is drumming to bring people together not only for performance but also as a collective ritual that bridges the powerful connections to celebrate community and gather power to make the transformation. While such space was dominated by men culturally and historically, Woori Sori came together in 1995 founded by a group of leaders at KAN-WIN whose mission is to fight against gender-based violence and is now open to a larger community that shares these values. Multi-generational members of Woori Sori bring various backgrounds as mothers, sisters, community workers, and churchgoers, but the common thread tying us together is our commitment to work together to achieve gender, racial, and social justice.
