Dear Lisa,
On September 30, I am walking the Stride Against Violence 5k in support of immigrant survivors of domestic violence. In America, one in four women will experience domestic violence, and immigrant women are at even greater risk because they don’t have equal access to services that help survivors end the cycle of violence. Together, I know we can make a difference!
Please consider registering and joining my team or making a donation on my page . My team has committed to raising $1000 and I need your help to reach our goal!
The money we raise at Stride Against will support Apna Ghar (Our Home), a great organization in Chicago that helps immigrant women and children reclaim, renew, and rebuild their lives. Apna Ghar empowers survivors to be self-sufficient through a full spectrum of services from education to emergency and transitional housing to counseling and legal services.
Thank you,
Ashley

Here are some fundraising ideas:
- Sponsor yourself! Make your contribution when you register.
- Carry your donation form with you and collect donations right away.
- Send e-mails to everyone in your address book, that you are comfortable with, and ask them to sponsor you.
- Explain why you are involved with the walk.
- Add a tagline to your email signature. That way every time you send an email, you’re making another ask. If you’re registered online, make sure to include your webpage address in your signature tagline.
- See if your company has a matching gift program and double your money! Ask donors if their company has a matching gift program also.
- Have a Stride Against Violence change jar at your desk and ask co-workers to contribute their pocket change.
- Ask your religious organization or company to include an article in their newsletter or bulletin about your participation inviting donations and team participants.
- Host a dinner party and ask your guests to donate the amount they would have paid at a restaurant for dinner.
- Large donations are great, but don’t underestimate the power of small donations. E.g. 100 friends giving $10-20 each can add up very quickly.
- Create fundraising incentives for your team members to encourage them to raise more money.

Here are some tips:
- Write your letter from the heart, tell your story with passion and enthusiasm, and make it personal.
- Invite people to walk with you and/or make a donation.
- Tell people your fundraising goal and how close you are to reaching it.
- Keep it short and to the point.
- Include the link to your personal page so people can donate online. Also let them know where to send a check (make payable to Apna Ghar).
- Send it to everyone you can think of.
- Ask two, three, and four times! Most people need a reminder. Don’t be shy about asking more than once.
- Let your contacts know that they can share the letter. They may know someone else who would like to help.
- Carry extra copies of your letter. You never know who you will run into and the more people you ask, the more donations you will receive!
