The executive director provides administrative, fiscal and programmatic oversight for the agency.
Neha Gill, Executive Director
Neha Gill is a passionate and dedicated advocate for gender equality. Prior to becoming Apna Ghar’s executive director in August, 2013 she held several key positions within the organization overseeing program management and organizational development since February, 2003.
Neha has led consultations and trainings, and advised local and international NGOs, government officials, staff of UN agencies on providing services to survivors of gender based violence. In 2014, policies and procedures for serving survivors of gender based violence that she helped establish were formally adopted by the Kurdish Regional Government of Iraq. Neha is regularly profiled in the media, has been featured on radio and television, and is cited in several studies, articles and books on social justice and human rights issues. In 2016, she co-authored a case study on Apna Ghar’s work in the book Spirituality, Culture and Development: Implications for Social Work, published by Indiana University press. She has also published several articles on topics ranging from sustainable development, immigrant rights, to trauma-informed design.
Neha has extensive cross-cultural experience having worked on gender issues in East Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America. She is also the proud recipient of several awards including the Impact Award from the Chicago Foundation for Women and the Lifetime Achievement Award for Public Service from the Indo American Democratic Organization (IADO). She is a 2019 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow, and in 2020 she was appointed to the Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues for the 10th district. She serves on the boards of The Network: Advocating to End Domestic Violence and the Lawyering Project.
Neha received her Master of Science degree in International Public Service with certificates in Public Policy and International NGO Management from DePaul University in Chicago, and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Knox College in Galesburg, IL. She is a graduate of the Minnesota Studies in International Development (MSID) program, and holds certificates in leadership, nonprofit management and nonprofit finance.

Apna Ghar's outreach and education department facilitates the organization's 40-hour domestic violence training, conducts presentations and training for community organizations, schools, medical providers, and other groups about gender violence and the programs and services we provide.
